Climb the Matterhorn (4,478 m) with us – the most iconic Alpine peak and one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Our ascent starts at the Hörnli Hut (3,260 m) and leads through exposed rocky terrain all the way to the summit, where breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss and Italian Alps await.
The ascent takes place over a three-day program led by a certified mountain guide, with a strong focus on safety, proper acclimatization, and an unforgettable experience you’ll remember for a long time.
Matterhorn Climb – Day-by-Day Program
Day 1 – Acclimatization climb to a 4,000 m peak
On the first day, we complete an acclimatization ascent to a pre-selected peak agreed upon in advance. The route leads over a glacier and rocky terrain, ideal for practicing movement at high altitude and using crampons. The climb starts in the village of Saas Grund. After reaching the summit, we return to the valley and stay overnight.
Day 2 – Hike to the Hörnlihütte
On day two, we transfer to Zermatt. During the day, we hike up to the Hörnlihütte (3,260 m), where accommodation is secured for the night. We rest and prepare for the Matterhorn summit push the following morning.
Day 3 – Summit day: Matterhorn
The third day starts early with the final ascent to the Matterhorn (4,478 m). A demanding, technical route awaits, testing both your skills and physical fitness. From the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Swiss and Italian Alps. After descending, we return to Zermatt.
Difficulty of the Matterhorn Ascent
- Requires excellent physical fitness, strength, and real experience in exposed rocky terrain.
- Confident movement in exposed sections is necessary (grade II – IV UIAA).
- The entire climb and descent are done roped up under the guidance of a certified mountain guide.
Recommended Preparation Hikes
Good fitness and experience in high-mountain terrain are essential for the Matterhorn. Excellent training routes include the Traverse of the Ľadové Peaks or the Ridge of the Pyšné Peaks to Lomnický Peak. These help you adapt to exposure, long ascents, and altitude – exactly what you’ll face on the Matterhorn.
- Traverse of the Ľadové Peaks from Hrebienok
- Ridge of the Pyšné Peaks to Lomnický Peak from Hrebienok
- Other hikes with at least 1,000 m of elevation gain
